Blocking Internet Sites

The Internet is becoming the biggest media outlet - This technology advancement has developed way before any laws could be implemented - causing the user to be responsible with the content they view. Other forms of media such as movies and games have a certification on their content. Unfortunately, Internet websites do not have this system - Some sites require you to enter your date of birth to view specific videos, but it’s just too easy to bypass this by lieing.

Several software companies have developed tools to look down the Internet - Protecting children from malicious websites , email abuse and offering informative chat and password logging.

If your on a tight budget and are a bit of a wiz on the computer - you can try and configure some simple protections yourself - DIY style.

Blocking Internet Sites - Quick Steps

Open your internet browse of choice (default is Internet Explorer)

  1. Click “Tools” in the top menu.
  2. Click on “Internet Options…” A new window will appear.
  3. Click on “Content” tab
  4. At the top there will be the “Content Advisor” click “Enable…”

You have now reached the content advisor; this is where we can setup our security.

  • “Ratings” tab - Set rating levels for: nudity, language, sex and violence.
  • “Approved Sites” tab - Block/Allow sites regardless of their security rating. This is an overrule to the default protection.
  • “General” tab
    • Block/Allow sites that are yet to receive a rating - block recommended
    • Create a password - Perfect for older children - If the child reaches a site that is blocked - An adult can enter the password and view the site. Works as 1 time view or lifetime unblock.

Free Virus Repair - Software Xiposed!

We have all been on the emotional roller coaster of dealing with an infected PC - Looking for free virus repair is usually the first step to trying to return peace to our systems.

Now - What if the solution you were looking for turned out to be another problem? Many ‘free’ virus repair tools contain malicious code - Spyware and Malware or worse - A Trojan infection.

The funny this is, you actually agree to have your PC compromised. It’s all in the end user license agreements - Thing is no one reads them - Just click yes and install. Now they have full rights to inject as much adware into your PC as possible, causing massive system instabilities.

Anti-Virus protection is vital - A few years ago it was forgivable to keep your system bare, now it’s simply too risky to go undefended. With the next generation of Internet criminals coming to the playing field - And the windows platform welcoming them with open arms - It’s time to take computer attacks seriously.

MacroVirus On-Call is an affordable alternative for anti-virus and anti-spyware solutions. Get the free scan here.

Removal of Trojans - Damage Control

Firstly, let me explain what a Trojan is before going in to detail on how to remove one.

Trojan - Programmed to appear innocent or helpful, has the secret intention of malicious activity; such as granting full access to your PC via creating a backdoor.

The removal of Trojans is vital for system security - Imagine having someone having complete control over your system, logging key presses - credit card details and conversations. It’s often the creator of a Trojan has the intent of gaining control over hundreds upon thousands of PC’s for the use of a package attack.

This is performed by using your PC’s power and Internet connection to consistently send information at a specific website or server - Now this won’t have an effect by itself, but with thousands of PC’s performing this attack it will bring down any system.

How can you tell if you are unknowingly engaged in an online vendetta? - A sudden or dramatic slow down of your PC and/or Internet connection is usually a clue.

Unfortunately, most people don’t realize they are actually accepting Trojans into their system. It’s through no fault of their own - the Trojans are disguised as helpful programs.

Removal of Trojans can be difficult - There’s no single solution, just like real life operations, no same procedure fits every illness. Attempting Do-It-Yourself repair on your PC is not advised - You could end up seriously damaging the operating system beyond repair.

I imagine the lack of firewall protection and Virus defense has put you in a world of hurt. We should all take precautions to prevent these disastrous infections. Several virus protection programs exsist on the net, i refuse to use them after one actually infecting my system with more adware and malware..

Tweaking Windows 2K/XP

Windows XP does offer some sort of protect if your willing to fiddle about a bit, but then there’s always walkarounds with their software.

For instance, you are able to block complete Internet access with the proper user setup.

Start -> control panel -> user accounts

Select the specific user name, click the properties button. A new window will open, select the group membership. Change user profile to ‘restricted user’. This will prevent the user from installing programs and changing system settings. Also, remember to limit or delete the default guest account.

blocking websites

Start -> control panel -> security center -> Internet options

The Internet properties window will open. Select the security tab and then the restricted sites icon. Click ’sites’, you can now add websites which will be blocked from viewing.

Better Alternatives

Rather than tweaking windows (which can often be bypassed anyway) it’s better using specialized software to do the following;

*Block websites and monitor web history
*Chat recorder
*Email monitoring

MacroVirus On-Call - Review

Anyone actively using the Internet without protection is at some stage going to get burnt. There’s no avoiding it, virus and spyware development, combined with thousands of malicious websites - At some point your going to have to deal with an infection.

Now - If your PC or laptop isn’t used very often and doesn’t contain masses of information. Having to wipe the hard drive clean and start a fresh won’t seem that daunting - But for many it’s horrific.

businesses without digital protection have their days numbered - A company i worked for ran into big trouble, Although they blocked 99% of active websites - A staff member got through the filters, unknowingly corrupted the system with an infection - Thousands of customer’s details were lost.

I must admit, i was guilty of my own ignorance. My philosophy was; if its not broken - why fix it? Especially if it costs money? Well, i later discovered that preventing an incident is much easier than dealing with it.

MacroVirus On-Call

As technology advances we are turning into a nation that does everything online; banking, shopping, auctioning, social networking, even watching TV shows.. which sounds a little bizarre..

These services require data - data which we must also protect.

Name / Address / Telephone number / Bank account details / Credit card details / Other personal details

The reasons are obvious why you wouldn’t want a corrupt individual getting hold of this personal information.

This is where MacroVirus and its leading On-Call software comes in. Antivirus and anti-spyware are no longer stand alone packages - both tools are bundled together to create the ultimate defence tool. I’ve always been a little skeptical of anti-viruses, previous software’s have effected my laptops speed - OK, it’s not the fastest laptop in the world anymore, but i would still want to be able to use it whilst having Internet protection running.

Anti-Virus - Anti-Spyware - Adware Remover - Pop-Up Blocker

MacroVirus software fits the bill here, It’s small processing usage and hard-disk space required makes it perfect for the ’slower’ models - But still powerful enough to keep your top system in shape.

Perfect Uninstaller - Review

Perfect Uninstaller

So, i was chatting with my friend about the annoying computer stuff I’ve been dealing with, he went on to boast to me that speeding up his PC was a piece of cake, usually when my PC turns sluggish.. I have to reformat and install a fresh set of windows, when i heard about this glimmer of hope, i had to check it out.

Following in his footsteps, i stumbled over to the perfect uninstaller website.

Software installed as expected, now to run a test.

Test run.

My first goal was to uninstall the older versions of MSN messenger, windows seems to have some sort of deep interest in booting up each version on start up. There is no need for it.

At first, i had difficulty finding the MSN software, but there’s more that meets the eye. Once i hit ’show windows update’ my screen was populated with masses of information.

Right! - Time to get to work - removing registry entries. . . .

I was worried it was going to take an hour plus - several programs in the past have taken far too long to scan through all my folders.

Finalizing . . .

Just a minute! - Please register? - this just makes my blood boil. Why would you lead someone on like that? well, there’s no use crying over spilled milk. I head over to their official site for my serial number.

..And in a split second it’s done.

Now that I’ve got my feet wet, it’s time to jump into the deep end and get to work on all the useless programs eating my PC’s power.

Important extras.

Surprisingly the program also features the ability to tweak the start up menu. Now - this is a feature after my own heart. Your granted the ability to disable programs being booted on start-up - Increasing boot speed - without removing the software. Talk about striking while the iron is hot!

Now that my PC has been given a clean bill of health, i can begin to get on with the more important things - Before you go green with envy - here’s the link.
